Job Description:
The Director of The MacDonnell Career and Internship Center (TMCIC) provides the vision, leadership, and management of the TMCIC, its administrative team, and oversight of all TMCIC initiatives. The ideal candidate will be excited by the opportunity to envision, create, and sustain a campus wide career-readiness ecosystem that supports all students on their journey to prepare for fulfilling careers.
The Director interacts with all community members including: students, alumni, faculty, administrators/staff, employers and community partners. This position oversees all aspects of the office including (but not limited to) various software platforms, reporting, first destination survey, processes, for-credit internships, events such as career fairs, employer relations, the mentoring program, career services, etc. The Director actively engages in career counseling and works to promote the services of the center and career readiness across campus. This position provides leadership, supervision and professional development to all TMCIC employees.
The Director works with the Associate Provost for Experiential Learning and the Senior Experiential Learning Team to cultivate a culture of excellence and innovation in experiential learning at Siena University.
Main Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Associate Provost for Experiential Learning, the Director provides the vision, leadership, and management of The MacDonnell Career and Internship Center (TMCIC), its administrative team, and oversight of all TMCIC initiatives. The Director works with the Associate Provost and the Senior Experiential Learning Team to cultivate a culture of excellence and innovation in experiential learning at Siena University. The ideal candidate will be excited by the opportunity to envision, create, and sustain a campus wide career-readiness ecosystem that supports all students on their journey to prepare for fulfilling careers.
Strategy Development
In collaboration with Associate Provost for Experiential Learning, set short- and long-term goals for the Center, aligned with the university's mission and student retention efforts. Partner with the Development Office to engage alumni as mentors, recruiters, and guest speakers. Follow labor market trends to advise leadership and adapt career programming to evolving industry demands.
Department Leadership
Provide leadership to the TMCIC team, focusing on professional development, innovation and continuous improvement. Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and student-centered working environment. Manage the department budget, resource allocation, and revenue generation.
Employer Relations
Develop and maintain relationships with employers and alumni networks to expand internship and job opportunities for students. In collaboration with faculty and employers, develop for-credit internship opportunities. Oversee campus career events, including university-wide career fairs and tabling events.
Cross-Campus Collaboration
Work with academic Deans, department chairs, and faculty to further integrate career readiness and experiential learning into the curriculum. Liaise with campus partners to embed career exploration into the student experience. Collaborate with the Development Office to engage alumni as mentors, recruiters, and guest speakers. As the primary institutional representative for career development, represent the Office at divisional meetings and serve on campus-wide committees.
Career Counseling
Oversee and conduct comprehensive career counseling, coaching, educational workshops and other programming to support student exploration of career opportunities. Partner with faculty to offer career presentations in classes. Teach the courses offered by the Center and participate in other engagement opportunities.
Assessment
Oversee the utilization of a career technology platform (Handshake) to optimize service delivery. Regularly evaluate effectiveness of career programming and promote continuous improvement.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree
Minimum 5 years' progressively responsible work experience in career counseling, including at least 3 years in a college career center.
Knowledge of career development theories and labor market trends.
Experience administering career specific computer platforms, such as Handshake, Simplicity etc.
Experience collaborating with colleagues on programs and initiatives.
Experience building and cultivating strategic partnerships with employers, alumni and/or other external constituents.
Experience preparing and delivering effective presentations to a wide array of audiences.
Ability to mentor and coach team members, manage a budget and ensure efficient day-to-day operations.
Ability to work considerable evening and occasional weekend hours.
Valid driver's license and insurability as some travel is expected.
Preferred Qualifications:
10 or more years of relevant experience.
5 years of progressively responsible experience in a college career center
Prior management experience
