Description
Reporting to a Senior Building Codes Inspector, your daily responsibilities include conducting thorough inspections to ensure adherence to the Virginia
Construction Code and local ordinances. This involves examining mechanical work, as well as materials used, and equipment installed.
Each day, you will review building plans and blueprints, visit construction sites, and perform detailed inspections to verify that all work meets code
requirements. Common inspections include checking the installation of HVAC systems, as well as fire suppression systems and fire alarm systems. Advising property owners and contractors on code standards and coordinating with utility companies will be part of your routine. In cases of non-compliance, you will issue violation notifications and court summonses and may need to testify in court. Detailed documentation and daily reports are essential.
Providing excellent customer service by addressing inquiries and concerns from the public is crucial. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are
necessary, as you will develop professional relationships and handle customer service issues with tact. Requirements
This position requires a high school diploma and 3-5 years journey level experience in building trade OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master certification in a building trade preferred.
